 RANGE RULES
IMPORTANT NOTICE:  Please note the change of location of THE SIGN IN BOOK.  It has been moved to the rifle range, close to the middle at the entrance.  This is to make it simpler and easier for you to remember to sign in PRIOR to shooting.  We have noticed that a lot of you do not sign in and we are hoping that relocating this box, will make it easier to remember.  Thank you for your participation in this new little regulation.

EYE AND EAR PROTECTION IS MANDATORY.  All shooting shall be initiated from the firing line at a target placed in the proper location in front of shooter.  NO CROSS RANGE SHOOTING.

RANGE CONTROL

Informal use of the range requires courtesy and patience from everyone. If there is more than 1 shooter, a
Range Officer should be appointed by the group.

When arriving at the pistol/rifle range, DO NOT HANDLE OR UNCASE FIREARMS, if people are down range.  Wait until everyone is back behind the firing line.

If someone is waiting to go down range be prompt in finishing your shots and get into a safe condition.

Get your business down range done promptly so as not to hold up other shooters.

Get attention of all shooters when calling for a "RANGE CLOSURE".

All firearms must be made safe before anyone heads down range to hang or collect targets.

DO NOT HANDLE FIREARMS FOR ANY REASON (EVEN TO CASE THEM AND LEAVE THE RANGE) WHILE PEOPLE ARE DOWN RANGE.

A New lighting system has been installed: WHEN LIGHTS ARE ON RANGE IS " CLOSED".  Turn lights on before going down Range and turn lights off to open Range and start firing.
Silhouette Range is STRICTLY BLACK POWDER !

FIRING LINE

ONLY SHOOT FROM THE FIRING LINE.   NOTE THE FIRING LINE SIGNS THAT HAVE NOW BEEN INSTALLED.  We have had some instances where members have crossed the line to get closer to the 25 yd. targets.  If this continues, we will be forced to have a Range Safety Officer on site at all times.

Fire only from the firing point that lines up with your target.  NO CROSS RANGE SHOOTING.

Before anyone goes forward of the firing line, all firearms shall be made safe.  All actions must be open and magazines must be removed.

TARGETS

Paper or cardboard targets are acceptable. Do not hang targets on upright posts, only on target backboards.

No Glass containers may be used as targets. Clean up paper targets or anything else that has been used as a target and put in garbage containers.  Please note that 338 Lapua Class of Rifle CAN ONLY BE FIRED
from the newly installed shooting bench.  This is to comply with the Range Template regulations.

UNACCEPTABLE FIREARMS

No fully automatic firearms.  .50 BMG is NOT allowed.  Exploding targets or material such as Tannerite are strictly forbidden on our Range and shooters will have their range privileges and membership revoked.  These are extremely dangerous and we do not have insurance for this kind of material.

SPENT CASES AND TARGETS

Clear your firing area up after use.  Pick up all brass and shotgun hulls and place it in the cans or take it home.    If you bring targets, remove them from the backboards and  please put them in the trash or take them home with you when finished.

TRASH

Please do not throw empty aerosol cans, batteries and live/.misfired ammunition in the trash.  Take it home with you.

ZERO-TOLERANCE POLICY

The Valleyview and District Gun Club has a zero-tolerance policy towards anyone found under the influence or using alcohol and/or illegal drugs while participating on any of our ranges.  Anyone in violation of this policy will be immediately brought before the board pending cancellation of membership.
